im of two minds with vigcup, I don't ship it as hiccstrid was my first ever OTP and they were my first real "they better get together or ill do it myself" (FROM MEMORY) but it is a totally valid ship and viggo was hard core crushing on hiccup like- "my dear hiccup" all the damn time man-

At the same time i really dont get why people are so grouchy about it. You can just not ship something? no ones forcing anyone to ship it, and its not even like its a "problematic" ship (ew, ship and let ship unless its got real world consequences aka shipping real people) ? Like hiccup was what? 18-19? viggo was in his 30s (apparently, i think he was probably a lil younger headcanon wise) but like thats not even bad in fanfiction terms. There are wayyyyyy worse age gap relationships that are canon and far "grosser" (cough every "thousand-year-old male fay and barely legal girl" book ever cough)

in short, i have no issues with it but i don't ship it personally. i may read it now and then but meh.

I mean, why attach morality to ships? A ship doesn’t have to be “healthy” to be a valid thing for someone to ship. They can be toxic and “problematic” and all sorts of other things. “I ship this” does not usually mean “I find this healthy and aspire for this irl.”

I just don’t like this idea of trying to prove that Vigcup isn’t problematic. It’s enemies to lovers, and can definitely be bad and toxic and wrong. I write it in a lot of different lights.

People get pearl clutchy about it because of the age gap and them being enemies. We don’t know Viggo’s canon age, but I would say probably late 30s, early 40s, and the pearl clutchers like to pretend that Hiccup isn’t an adult in RTTE, even though he is. But again, even if he wasn’t what the modern US considers an adult, it would be okay to ship because it’s fake.

It’s all fictional. It’s playing with dolls in our minds. No harm done.

(I’m sorry for the rant but I have been through so much shit over this ship and others. I’ve often been harassed for writing dark fic and for shipping the “wrong” thing or shipping the “wrong” way. People shouldn’t be harassed for what they ship, even if you find it personally disgusting/distasteful/what-have-you. You can’t say ship and let ship and then apply terms and caveats to it. Then you don’t truly mean “ship and let ship.”)

you should totally take a break! you’re an awesome creator, and i do really love your designs, ideas, and all of that but.. you clearly need one, what you were describing really sounds like burnout to me and if you don’t take a break now it’ll just get worse :(

I can’t just not do them, they’re all I do. Like legit, how many drawings of anything other than fankids or other random OCs I’ve created have you seen me make in the past year, or at least since the fall? Barely any!

Not to mention I can barely draw anything else anymore. I can’t think of random stuff for characters to be doing that I can draw, I can’t draw anything that isn’t a Cookie anymore, and I don’t have the patience for nice art pieces anymore because I just want to post whatever one thing I’ve drawn instead of having some patience anymore. They’ve ruined me and yet it’s all I am, they’re the only thing I’m good at, it’s all I have. If I don’t draw them then I don’t draw

And also I’ll feel guilty about leaving people’s request to rot in the meantime. I still have a couple requests from last March, nearly a year ago now. I should make people wait longer than I already have?

So basically in conclusion, while taking a break sounds kind of nice, and it’d probably be for the best, I just can’t do that, or rather I won’t

Hey I know people mean well when they reply things like "please remember to take care of yourself!!" when replying to me talking about getting work done, but also: have you considered........I need to do work.......to.......take care of myself........

Like I'm all about self-care and all that, but also, self-care isn't just taking the day off and bubble baths and buying gifts for yourself. It's also managing your time and making sure you get paid and make money. I know I'm constantly working on shit, but this IS how I make money TO take care of myself.

It's a small thing, but a slight adjustment of language, like saying "I hope you can find time to relax" really does go a long way.

okay so like Fearne and Chetney had a threesome with Chetney's ex Deanna in some haunted woods, and then Chetney offered up an open invitation for some "sexual healing" to anyone in the group, but like especially Orym and Ashton, and like, especially Ashton, who was kind of actually considering it. which is funny bc Ashton also has this flirtation with Fearne, and they just held hands naked in lava, which freaked Orym out because Orym and Fearne are best friends, and also he and Ashton have this emotional support rock, narrative parallels thing going on. Ashton has a similar thing with Laudna, but with significantly more bitching and significantly less intricate rituals and blatant ogling. and Laudna is very much shacked up with Imogen regardless, and if they were to open up their relationship to anyone it would absolutely be Fearne, who will probably ask them the second she finds out they're together, bc the only one they've actually told is Chetney, who is probably not Orym's dad but may be Orym's dad. which is a little weird, given that before this was suggested Chetney had sexually propositioned Orym multiple times, and Orym wasn't not interested, but this is somehow not the first time basically this exact thing has happened on this show. Fearne and Chetney tried to sleep with Orym's mom. FCG is also here. and actually got laid before any of these people, with FRIDA, who, funnily enough, is Deanna's best friend-

hey just for the record, if you’re on r/ao3 and keep running into these kinds of comments on bookmark related posts — it’s not a good take. calling someone’s writing “slop” and saying it deserves criticism for being bad BECAUSE it’s posted publicly might seem like a nuanced take, but I promise it isn’t.

yes, sometimes us writers get a little too obsessed over a cryptic comment or bookmark; no, that doesn’t actually mean the solution is to say whatever you want in them because authors “deserve” your honesty. 

I know we’re in a touchy time for readers and writers, but comments like these are NOT kind, refreshing, or nuanced. they’re just kind of mean and discouraging.
